The Most Common Home Appliance Problems

Written by Casey Shearns on . Posted in , .

Home appliances can make a significant impact on your quality of life. They make everyday tasks around the house significantly easier. In some cases, a household appliance is required for these types of tasks! However, home appliances aren’t foolproof. Many home appliances can malfunction, causing significant water or fire damage to your home. In order to prevent these worst-case scenarios from occurring, it’s important to understand the most common problems with appliances so you can work to prevent them. We’ll give you an insight into the biggest issues with home appliances below!

Refrigerators: Leaking Water

Refrigerators are one of the most important household appliances out there, but that doesn’t mean that it’s void of potential problems. One of the biggest complaints from homeowners is that their fridge is leaking water – which can lead to serious water damage if not dealt with in a quick fashion! The biggest cause of a refrigerator leak is a blocked water line – since these appliances utilize water for the ice dispenser, it can get blocked and cause water to pool underneath the fridge. A professional should be able to diagnose the main cause and connect you with the right people to fix it.

Dryers: Fires from Clogged Vent

When was the last time you had your dryer vent professionally cleaned or inspected? Dryer vent
lines are prone to clogging without regular maintenance. Lint and debris can build up. The heat
from the dryer exhaust can ignite clogs and lead to dangerous fires. Don’t skip this important
step of home maintenance.

Washing Machines: Drain Line Failure

Your washing machine uses a lot of water to wash your clothing. Hot and cold water supply
lines bring water into the machine with each load. After wash or rinse cycles, your washing
machine expels water through a drain line into your septic system or sewer line. These lines
should be monitored and inspected on a regular basis. They are prone to fail over time and can
lead to water damage. Imagine the dirty water leaving your washing machine and flooding your
laundry room. It makes a mess, and professional cleanup may be needed.

All I have to say is WOW and FANTASTIC. I just got done building out my new professional office with Soil-Away’s construction division and they went ABOVE and BEYOND. Scott and Mike, the carpenters are skilled artisans. The project got done on time and the project came in on budget! The finished results have been blowing people away. Much better than I could have anticipated. Anyone is welcome to come to our office, Bright Light Chiropractic in Hooksett to check out the fine work they did. Simply can’t sing enough praises for them. Sorry that the picture doesn’t do the job justice. Thank you Jack and your team. -Dr. Jay

Since day one, I’ve known the owner, Jack, to be a hard-working and selfless leader. Through the efforts of him and his team, he was able to restore my flooded restaurant to tip-top shape. I was amazed with Jack’s orderliness throughout the entire process. Jack has proven to me that he is trustworthy, as both a friend and an individual in the work environment.

Highly recommend Soil-Away. A pipe in our upstairs bathroom gave and sent water down through a wall for at least a day before we noticed water dripping through our kitchen ceiling. Our insurance put us in touch with Soil-Away and they were at our house the next morning to assess the damage and dry things out. Joe, Ray and Tom were phenomenal to work with. They explained every part of the process to us and were very professional and friendly. If you have to deal with similar issues call Soil-Away, you won’t regret it.
