What To Do If Your Bathtub Is Overflowing
While you should always do your best to prevent disasters in your home, that doesn’t mean that they’ll be impossible to stop. Sometimes, problems with your home can arise without you even noticing! These types of disasters can lead to massive damage throughout the home if you don’t act quickly. This is especially true when it comes to water damage! Having your bathtub overflow is never a problem you want, but it’s an issue that has the potential to arise without your knowledge. If you’ve found yourself in this situation, it’s important to act quickly. We share our best tips on how to assess and deal with this issue below!
Turn Off The Tap Immediately
Before you go to assess the situation any further, it’s important to make sure that it doesn’t get any worse. Check the faucet – is your tap still running? If it is, you should definitely turn it off! Cleaning up after an overflowing tub is exhausting work on its own, but if you leave your tap on, that damage could exponentially multiply. It’s a step that should go without saying, but it’s still vital enough to mention first to prevent any further damages from occurring.
Mop Up and Clean Up Excess Water
Once you’ve ensured that no further damages will occur due to the overflow, the next step is to clean up the water pooling on the floor. Get some extra towels to soak up a good amount of the water, then turn to a mop and bucket to get the excess water off the floor. It’s important to move quickly as you do this to prevent any leakages from the floor to the ceiling below it. Don’t stop until you can ensure that the floor is dry!
Head Downstairs To Investigate Damages
You’ve taken care of the mess in the room, but now you have to determine if it spread elsewhere. Think of the room that is immediately below the bathroom you’re in and head downstairs to it. Look up at the ceiling for signs of leaking, damage to the ceiling, or any light fixtures that may be hanging above them. If you have to, make sure you put a container under any leaks to ensure that they don’t damage the room. Once you’ve done this, you’re now free to investigate the source of the leak.
